The Web

We lie,

You and I,

Under the open sky.

We lie in fields of grass

And watch the stars that pass

Awaiting that escape that must come at last.

I may never know you or see your face,

But we, with the rest of the human race,

Fighting for love, fighting for space,

Powerless alone,

Untouched,

Unknown,

Our lives entwined like creepers, lie:

My thorn at your throat, yours in my eye.

Under the open sky.
